Jags uncertain about James Robinson’s status vs. Colts, still dealing with ankle swelling

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson missed the first game of his career last Sunday against the Chicago Bears and could be out again against the Indianapolis Colts. In his first presser of the week, coach Doug Marrone stated that he wasn’t sure if the rookie tailback would practice this week as there still is some swelling around Robinson’s ankle.

“I can’t tell right now, Marrone said. “He still has swelling, so we can’t do anything until that swelling goes down. I’m hoping he’ll have a better chance on Wednesday. If the swelling’s not down, then obviously it’s not going to look good. But I’m not ready right now to say it’s for sure because there’s still a chance.”

If Robinson can’t go, that certainly would bode well for the Colts, who need a win against the Jags and some help to get in the playoffs. As the Jags best offensive player, it would be a daunting task to beat the Colts without Robinson, who has looked like a rookie of the year candidate.

In the Jags’ first meeting of the season against the Colts, Robinson introduced himself to the league. While he only had 16 rushes for 63 yards, he put up his top highlight of the season by leaping over defensive back Khari Willis. It was at that moment that Jags fans began to feel like they struck gold with the undrafted rookie free agent.

With 1,070 yards to his name, Robinson is currently third in the league in rushing. With that being the case, he’s shown the Jags more than enough and there is no point in further risking injury if he’s not close to 100%.

If Robinson is eventually held out, the Jags will likely start Dare Ogunbowale again in his place after the young tailback flashed against the Bears. He put up 71 yards over 14 carries, which was good for an average of over five yards a carry.
