Jags to likely sit a majority of their starters vs. Eagles

The Jacksonville Jaguars sat 32 players during Week 1’s preseason, and it sounds as though they will take a similar approach Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles. On Tuesday morning, Doug Marrone told the media that he’ll “probably not play some of the players [starters and a few second teamers]” Thursday due to the amount of reps the starters are getting in practice.

As most are aware, Marrone informed the media that he’ll be taking a different training camp approach and switching things up from the strenuous practices he’s had during his first couple of summers in Jacksonville. Of course, the reasoning for that is because the Jags have limped into the regular season and have also had some bad luck with injuries during the preseason. However, that’s not to say that a dialed down approach has made camp “easier” because as he stated above, the starters are seeing more reps during the week.

In all probability, that means players like Jalen Ramsey, Nick Foles, Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue and many other stars will be held out. However, most of the Jags’ second and third-team players will see a ton of action, which will allow the staff to further evaluate what the Jags have behind the first-team.

In Week 1’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, the reserves struggled as the final score was 29-0. Hopefully, that will lead to a better showing out of Gardner Minshew and company as the Eagles will provide them with quality reps.
