Jags to hire Dom Capers as senior defensive assistant to help DC Todd Wash

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ coaching staff got stronger Tuesday afternoon as they’ll be adding a familiar face and a well-known coaching legend to their staff. Per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the team is set to hire Dom Capers as a senior defensive assistant, formerly of the Green Bay Packers and several other teams.

Capers will work with defensive coordinator Todd Walsh to help bolster the team’s defense, which ranked No. 4 overall last season and was first the year before.

As stated by Rapoport, Capers brings with him 30 years of experience to Jacksonville, most notably spent as head coach of the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans for three seasons each.

In addition to being a head coach, Capers has worked in the game since 1972 where he began his career as a graduate assistant at Kent State.

The former Mount Union linebacker and defensive tackle previously coached in Jacksonville as the defensive coordinator from 1999-2000 under current football executive Tom Coughlin, who was the Jags’ head coach at the time.

Now, the longtime coach rejoins the Jaguars after spending nine seasons as the Packers’ defensive coordinator, who went to the playoffs every year that he was there.
