While Jacksonville Jaguars added some new pass-catchers in Tyler Eifert, Laviska Shenault, and Collin Johnson, there are current members in the receiving corps who the team is excited about, too. Of course, it goes with out saying Pro Bowler D.J. Chark is atop the list but second-year Josh Oliver may be a close second in the eyes of the coaching staff.
Their statements during this offseason and last prove that the staff is expecting big things out of Oliver as he was an athletic standout while at San Jose State. Fans can especially count tight ends coach Ron Middleton amongst those who has faith in Oliver as he had nothing but praise recently for the former third-round pick.
“He’s got speed. And he’s got toughness,” Middleton said via Jaguars.com. He has the ability to do it all. He has good hands. He showed savvy in route-running as far as finding those zone windows, and understanding if a defender has leverage. He can break routes and come back friendly to the quarterback. It’s just a damned shame we didn’t get to cultivate that and work on that during the season.”
As many are aware, Oliver didn’t see the field a lot in 2019 due to injuries. A hamstring injury from training camp held him out until the Jags’ Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals
