Jags take Washington State QB Gardner Minshew with pick No. 178

For the second consecutive year, the Jacksonville Jaguars have taken a quarterback in the sixth-round of the draft. Last year it was Tanner Lee, and this time it’s Washington State’s Gardner Minshew.

Minshew, 22, was 468-of-662 (70.7 percent) during his senior campaign and managed to pass for an impressive 4,776 yards and 38 touchdowns. That was good enough to land him in fifth place in the 2018 Heisman Trophy race behind names like Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins, who were first-round selections Thursday. Like the Jags’ last pick, he was invited to the Senior Bowl this past January, too, and played on the South team.

At 6-feet-1, 225-pounds, Minshew won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in 2018 and was also the Pac 12’s Offensive Player of the Year while playing with Mike Leach and the Cougars. However, what he’s most known for is having the best mustache in college football, which helped him develop a huge fan base on the West Coast.

All that said, he’ll fit right in at Duval as he’ll now join an owner in Shad Khan who has the best mustache in professional football.
