Jags snag RB Temple RB Ryquell Armstead with pick No. 140

Despite general manager Dave Caldwell saying he was confident in what the Jacksonville Jaguars had at running back, they still selected a prospect at the position in tailback Ryquell Armstead with pick No. 140.

Armstead was a player the Jags got a good look at during the Senior Bowl and seemingly came away impressed with. He’ll be coming off his best collegiate season with the Temple Owls after racking up 210 carries for 1,098 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. In totality, he managed to accumulate a career total of 2,812 yards and 34 touchdowns over the course of four seasons at Temple.

At 5-feet-11, 220 pounds, Armstead brings another big-body to the Jags’ running back corps to battle behind Leonard Fournette and in all probability Alfred Blue, who could be the No. 2 tailback. That means Armstead’s main competition will be Thomas Rawls, Mike Williams and Benny Cunningham during offseason activities and training camp.
