The Jacksonville Jaguars made a transaction Wednesday by signing tailback Devante Mays to their 90-man roster. To clear out a spot for his addition, they waive/injured tailback Taj McGowan, who will revert back to their reserved/injured list if he clears waivers.
Mays, 25, was a seventh-round draft selection out of Utah State with the Green Bay Packers in 2017. He appeared in eight games as a rookie while there before he landed with the Cleveland Browns where he was on their practice squad for the back half of the 2018 season. Throughout both seasons, he was only able to accumulate four carries for one yard and three receptions.
While at Utah from 2015-16, Mays racked up 202 carries for 1,225 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Now, he’ll look to get going again while providing preseason depth at the running back position and should get a decent look as the Jags’ first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens is next week.
