Jags sign first-round pick Josh Allen

Jacksonville Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen may not have been happy with sitting out of Day 2 of offseason team activities with a knee bruise, but that frown quickly turned to a smile after practice. The team announced that they finally locked up the rookie pass rusher to his first contract, which is a four-year deal.

Now, the team has just one unsigned draft pick in linebacker Quincy Williams.

Allen, 21, miraculously fell in the Jags’ lap in last month’s draft with the No. 7 overall pick. As the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and an unanimous All-American, he was widely regarded as a top-3 selection by most, but teams like the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants shook the prospect order up.

While at Kentucky, his skills to get to the quarterback were undeniable as he racked up 88 tackles and 17 sacks in 2018, which was good for second in the nation. As for his career stats, he accumulated 220 tackles, 31.5 sacks and 11 forced fumbles over the course of 42 games.

Per Over the Cap, the total value of Allen’s deal is just over $22.7 million. Just over $4.1 million of that will be earned in 2019, while over $14.5 million will be given to him in the form of a signing bonus.
