Jags safety Josh Jones designated to return from injured reserve

The Jacksonville Jaguars secondary is a bit banged up at the moment and could use some help. Luckily, that may be on the way as former starting safety Josh Jones (chest) was designated to return off injured reserve Wednesday.

With Jones now being cleared, the Jags have 20 days to activate him to the active roster. When looking at the state of the secondary, that could happen before Sunday’s trip to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones was placed on IR last month on Nov. 14 before the Jags’ game against the Green Bay Packers. Prior to going on IR, he had started in eight games for the Jags, accumulating 61 total tackles in the process, 42 of which were solo tackles.

Jones’ opportunity to return to the active roster comes as one of the Jags’ standout rookies Daniel Thomas went on IR on Nov. 25 and Jarrod Wilson surfaced on this week’s injury report (was limited) with a shoulder injury. That said, if Wilson is able to suit up, the Jags could roll with him while the other safety position could come down to Jones and Andrew Wingard.
