Jags safety Andrew Wingard designated to return from reserve/ injured list

The Jacksonville Jaguars designated second-year safety Andrew Wingard to return from their reserve/ injured list Wednesday, which means he has a shot to rejoin his teammates in Week 10’s game against the Green Bay Packers. The move comes after he was placed on injured reserve heading into Week 6 due to aggravating a pre-existing core muscle injury Week 5 against the Houston Texans.

The Jags also brought back free agent Doug Middleton through their practice squad Wednesday after releasing him earlier in the week.

As a result of his designation, the Jags now have three weeks to move Wingard to the active roster. That will likely be done sooner rather than later as Wingard has a great deal of experience and has started in five games since entering the league last season. He also is one of the team’s best special teams players.

Whenever he returns, Wingard will return to the active roster with 55 career tackles, two pass breakups, and a pick to his name. Of course, that interception came Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts as Wingard picked off Philip Rivers and aided the Jags to an opening week victory.
