Jags rookie pass rusher Josh Allen receives fifth best odds for DROY

Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick Josh Allen may have had the most sacks of any player taken in the top-32 picks, but apparently Vegas is well aware that he’ll see the field on a rotational basis. For that reason, Caesars Entertainment Corporation gave the young star the fifth-best odds for Defensive Rookie of the Year with several other first rounders ahead of him.

Allen, 21, fell into the Jags’ laps at the No. 7 overall pick and will probably go to the best situation of any player taken in the top-10. After finishing his 2018 season second in the NCAA in sacks with 17, he also was able to garner first-team All-SEC honors and first-team Associated Press All-American honors. Additionally, he won the Bednarik Award and the Nagurski Trophy as one of college footballs top defenders.

Allen could eventually become a starter for the Jags and most seem to think he’s the successor for Calais Campbell. However, for now he could see approximately 40 percent (maybe a little more) of the team’s defensive snaps similar to how Dante Fowler Jr. did when he was on the roster. For that reason, it makes sense that he wouldn’t be atop oddsmakers lists.

The players who came in ahead of Allen were Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Ed Oliver, Devin Bush, Devin White and Clelin Ferrell, all of whom are projected to be starters from Day 1.
