Jags rookie class has scored 16 touchdowns, the most in the NFL

The Jacksonville Jaguars 2020 season has been an exhausting one without a lot of positives. Of course, all of the lows turned out to be well worth it as the Jags ended up acquiring the No. 1 overall pick this Sunday.

When the season is over, fans also will see the rookie class as a bright spot as they’ve contributed in a big way, especially on offense. Whether it’s been through the historic numbers James Robinson has accumulated, or the contributions from receivers Laviska Shenault Jr. and Collin Johnson, it’s been impressive to watch.

Combining the efforts of the aforementioned players with those of rookie quarterback Jake Luton, the Jags have gotten 16 total touchdowns out of their rookie class. That’s a figure that’s good for first in the league and also second-among any rookie class in franchise history.

While the Jags have only registered one win, this is certainly an indication of what we’ve been saying all along at Jags Wire: the future seems bright. It’s also a clear sign that the offense could take a huge leap with the right approach in 2021.

Though general manager Dave Caldwell is no longer with the team and made his share of mistakes, the talent that he did leave the team with shouldn’t go unnoticed. When factoring in the contributions of his last two rookie classes, the next general manager isn’t going to come into a terrible situation and will have the opportunity to flourish sooner rather than later.

It looks like the Jags will have the opportunity to select Trevor Lawrence in April, and, as we’ve pointed out in the past, he won’t be joining an offense that’s talentless when looking at the skills of the rookies and D.J. Chark Jr. If the Jags could figure out answers at the tight end and left tackle positions, the Jags’ offense has the potential to be very dangerous next season.
