Jags re-sign swing OT Josh Wells

The Jacksonville Jaguars got a good look at their backup offensive line last season with all the injuries that went down and swing tackle Josh Wells was amongst that group. Apparently the veteran proved to be impressive enough in that process as the team announced that they’d be bringing him back Tuesday after letting him test the open market last month.

Wells, 28, will be returning to Jacksonville for his sixth season after going undrafted to the Jags in 2014 out of James Madison University. Throughout the course of those six seasons, he managed to start in nine games for the team as a reserve swing tackle, all of which came in his last two seasons (2017-18). Of course, five of his starts came last season in the place of left tackle Cam Robinson, who was lost for the season during Week 2’s win against the New England Patriots. Eventually, he was put on injured reserve himself in October of last season with a groin injury.

Wells makes for the second reserve offensive lineman the Jags have brought back as backup center and guard Tyler Shatley re-signed last week. And though the Jags could make some upgrades during the draft in terms of a reserve swing tackle, it’s good to see they are trying to piece back together the group they had during their 2017 playoff run.
