Jacksonville had a scary moment in Sunday’s win over the Bills as quarterback Trevor Lawrence had to leave the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury.
Though he appeared to be in a lot of pain and was briefly taken to the locker room, he re-entered the game to start the second half with his ankle taped up. After the game, coach Urban Meyer confirmed that Lawrence suffered a low-ankle sprain.
According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Lawrence will continue to undergo treatment this week but is expected to play in Sunday’s game on the road against the Indianapolis Colts.
“He got treatment after the game, so it’s not nothing-nothing, and I would expect him to be a little limited this week in practice, but X-rays were negative,” Rapoport said. “There was very limited to no damage, Trevor Lawrence should be fine this weekend.”
That is obviously great news for Jaguars fans. Lawrence struggled against the Bills’ No. 1 ranked defense, going 15-of-26 for 118 yards, but he moved the ball just enough and avoided turnovers, which proved to be the difference in the game as the Bills gave the ball away three times.
C.J. Beathard looked good in limited action in Lawrence’s absence, but the Jags will be pleased to have their improving rookie hopefully back to full health. They will certainly need him Sunday for a key division matchup against the 4-5 Colts, which have won three of their last four.
