Jags promote LB Joe Giles-Harris from practice squad, waive CB Parry Nickerson

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced the promotion of linebacker Joe Giles-Harris from their practice squad Monday. To make room for his addition, they waived cornerback Parry Nickerson, who was just signed last week.

The Jags also released quarterback Chase Litton from their practice squad.

Giles-Harris, 22, signed with the Jags this offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Duke. Alongside safety Andrew Wingard, he was one of only two undrafted players to make the team when the Jags crafted their final 53-man roster, however, they waived him and reclaimed him on their practice squad before their first regular-season game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The move to add Giles-Harris off the practice squad could be to give the Jags better numbers at linebacker as veteran Najee Goode left Sunday’s game in the first half against the Cincinnati Bengals with a foot injury.  The Jags may believe he could miss a great deal of time so they brought back Giles-Harris just in case.

Giles-Harris had a strong preseason with the Jags accumulating 15 tackles while playing in all four games and starting in the Jags’ Week 4 preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. Obviously, that would indicate that he’s quite familiar with the defensive playbook, which is why the Jags probably felt that promoting him was the right move over bringing in someone off the free agent market.
