Jags place WR Marqise Lee on IR, promote CB Tae Hayes to main roster

The Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to announce any new acquisitions with the trade deadline in the books, but they did have some transactions within their roster. Veteran receiver Marqise Lee was placed on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon, while practice squad cornerback, Tae Hayes, was promoted to the main roster to fill the vacant roster spot.

The details are unknown on Lee’s injury, however, he was taken out of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets for a shoulder injury, but came back into the game. The injury seemingly is one that will affect his performance going forward and Doug Marrone will likely have details on the matter during Wednesday’s media session.

Lee is the Jags’ most experienced receiver and has been instrumental in helping the Jags’ younger receivers like DJ Chark and Dede Westbrook throughout their careers. Unfortunately, he’s had to battle with injuries most of the way, including an ACL tear in which he sustained last preseason. He was eventually able to return to the practice field late in the preseason from the injury but also sustained an ankle injury Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints and the aforementioned shoulder injury Week 8.

As for Hayes, he signed with the Jags after going undrafted out of Appalachian State in April’s draft. He was able to put together an impressive preseason, accumulating 11 tackles, four pass breakups, and an interception. With the Jags having A.J. Bouye, Tre Herndon and D.J. Hayden as their top-3 corners, it’s possible Hayes may see some time on the field as a special teams player barring there aren’t any injuries atop the depth chart.
