Jags place rookie LB Quincy Williams on IR, claim LB Preston Brown off waivers

With the playoffs out of sight, the Jacksonville Jaguars continued to shuffle their roster Wednesday. The team added a linebacker in Preston Brown from waivers, who formerly played for their Week 15 opponents in the Oakland Raiders. To make room for the move, they placed 2019 third-round selection Quincy Williams on injured reserve.

Doug Marrone told the media that he would consider lineup changes at linebacker in his Wednesday morning presser, which is why the decision to put Williams on IR isn’t a complete shocker. Williams was on Wednesday’s injury report with a hand injury, but was limited in the process. It’s possible the Jags felt that the injury would be an issue after watching him throughout practice, or maybe they just saw enough out of the rookie, who has struggled at times.

As for Brown, he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third-round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Afterward, he spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the Raiders last month.

Brown will enter his tenure in Jacksonville with 609 career tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles. As a collegiate player at Louisville, he appeared in 52 games, started in 37 and accumulated 301 tackles, seven sacks and one interception.
