Jags pick up CB Jalen Ramsey’s fifth-year option

Despite Tom Coughlin’s feelings toward the team’s franchise player missing voluntary workouts, it appears cornerback Jalen Ramsey won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. The team announced that it has officially exercised Ramsey’s fifth-year option, keeping him under contract through the 2020 season.

Three years ago, the Jags selected Ramsey fifth overall in the 2016 draft, and he’s turned out to be their best draft selection since. He’s racked up 193 career tackles, 44 passes defensed and nine interceptions while establishing himself as arguably the league’s top cornerback. He was also named an All-Pro in 2017 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2018.

Jags general manager Dave Caldwell had said the team would look into Ramsey’s contract situation after the draft, but with the fifth-year option, there probably won’t be a rush. Instead, they might elect to get a deal done with defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, whose contract has only one year left.
