Jags officially sign WR Marcus Simms, waive Dedrick Snelson

The Jacksonville Jaguars officially signed Supplemental Draft prospect Marcus Simms Thursday and waived/injured undrafted receiver Dedrick Snelson of Central Florida to make room for his addition. If he can clear waivers, Snelson will revert back to the Jags’ injured reserve list, allowing them to hold on to him heading forward.

Simms, 21, went undrafted in Wednesday’s Supplemental Draft and agreed to a deal in principle with the Jags after having several offers on the table. The Jags were one of multiple teams to show interest in the young West Virginia receiver by attending his Pro Day, and it appears he viewed the Jags as the team who gave him the best shot to make a roster.

At 5-foot-11, 188 pounds, Simms hauled in 46 receptions for 699 yards and two touchdowns and finished his collegiate career with 87 catches for 1,457 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. As a kick returner, he racked up a career total of just under 1,000 yards and also racked up 157 yards as a punt returner.

As we previously mentioned, Simms’ best chance to make the roster is as a No. 5-6 receiver. To do that he’ll be in competition with some of the other undrafted receivers the Jags picked up in May like Tyre Brady, Michael Walker and Raphael Leonard.
