Jags officially place safety Rayshawn Jenkins on IR, RB Carlos Hyde joins him

The Jacksonville Jaguars put two of their most experienced players on injured reserve Tuesday in safety Rayshawn Jenkins and running back Carlos Hyde. The former was an expected move after Darrell Bevell discussed Jenkins situation on Monday, but Hyde’s situation is a bit of a shock.

In Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, Jenkins had his ankle rolled up during a kickoff where defensive back Tremon Smith returned a kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown. Jenkins’ ankle was inadvertently caught underneath linebacker Chapelle Russell after he missed the tackle on Smith and had to be carted to the back afterward.

Jenkins, 27, signed a four-year, $35 million deal in the spring and was one of the Jags’ most expensive additions of the offseason. He finished the season with 73 tackles, which is good for fourth on the team.

As for the 31-year-old Hyde, he also joined the team this offseason on a two-year deal worth $4.5 million. He missed the Jags’ last game after sustaining a concussion Wee 14 against Tennessee when linebacker Derick Roberson delivered a big hit on him. He’ll end the season with 72 carries for 253 yards and a touchdown.
