Jags officially decline Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ contract option

While the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they’d be exercising the contract options of team captains Calais Campbell and Lerentee McCray alongside safety Cody Davis, it appears tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins won’t share the same fate. According to their official site, the team declined the veteran’s second-year option, which means he’ll be a free agent in the near future.

The Jags’ decision didn’t surprise fans despite the team refuting his claim that a decision had been made on the second year of his contract option last month. This all comes after Seferian-Jenkins signed with the team last March, but missed 11 games due to ending up on injured reserve in October until the end of the season with a core muscle injury.

Seferian-Jenkins signed a two-year contract for $10.5 million with the Jags last March, with an option to pick up the final year for $4 million. However, it appears a mix of needing cap space and his inability to stay on the field factored into them parting ways as he was only able to accumulate 11 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown over the course of just five starts.
