Jags name Gardner Minshew their starting QB for upcoming game vs. Ravens

In his opening press conference for Week 15, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone announced that Gardner Minshew II will be starting in Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The decision came after Minshew replaced Mike Glennon in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans as the offense was in clear need of a spark behind center.

After seeing the field for roughly two and a half quarters Sunday, Glennon was 13-of-23 for 85 yards before he was benched. The Jags only were able to put up a field goal during his run, but that was mostly because of a forced fumble by defensive end Dawuane Smoot that put the Jags at the Titans’ 40-yard line.

The last straw seemed to be when Glennon threw a pick to Malcolm Butler in the third quarter. With the team needing a jolt, Marrone went to Minshew, who was able to drive the ball down the field for a Keelan Cole touchdown in his first drive. However, it’s worth noting that the game was out of reach at that point, which changed the approach of the’ Titans defense.

Minshew finished Sunday’s game 18-of-31 for 178 yards and a touchdown. Heading forward, he’ll at least give the Jags a player who can create from the pocket as they have the Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts remaining on their schedule.
