Jags LB Quincy Williams undergoes successful surgery for core muscle injury

It was announced that Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Quincy Williams would “miss time” with a core muscle injury last week and we now have an update on him. During Monday’s pre-practice media presser, coach Doug Marrone announced that the second-year linebacker had to undergo surgery to repair the injury and also revealed that it was a successful process.

As for a timetable, unfortunately, there hasn’t been one set yet but core muscle injuries often take approximately four to six weeks to return from. However, it’s worth noting the severity of Williams’ injury hasn’t been revealed.

Williams, 23, was drafted in the third-round of the 2019 draft out of Murray State. Coincidentally, he was drafted alongside tight end Josh Oliver last season, who also will be missing some time due to surgery this summer.

Williams was acquired last year as a result of veteran Telvin Smith retiring and leaving the Jags with a hole at weak-side linebacker. He ended up starting in eight games for the team, but had a brief period where he was benched as a result of struggling to adapt to the league’s fast-paced game. Still, he ended up with 48 total tackles and a pair of tackles for loss.

Williams’ injury comes as Marrone had announced that he liked the depth at linebacker last week, so the Jags should be able to maintain if Williams can return in the early stages of the regular season. Some non-starters who could fill his role as a reserve linebacker include Dakota Allen, Joe Giles-Harris, and Central Florida rookie Nate Evans, who the staff has mentioned often.
