Jags give Jalen Ramsey time away from team for birth of his second daughter

The status of Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos was already in question, and another twist has been added into the mix. The fourth-year cornerback was excused from the team Wednesday after practice to head to his hometown of Nashville to be with his family for the birth of his second daughter.

Ramsey has been one of the Jags’ most talked about players after requesting a trade from the team last Sunday after the team’s Week 2 loss to the Houston Texans. The request reportedly was a result of an argument with Jags football executive Tom Coughlin, which Ramsey says was “disrespectful” on the Jags’ end.

Ramsey played in the Jags’ most recent game against the Tennessee Titans, as the team was victorious by a score of 20-7. However, this week he hasn’t been able to practice though he has been at the facility.

On Monday, he came through to see the teams doctor after reportedly having what he believed was the flu. The team had Tuesday off, however, Ramsey also missed Wednesday after surfacing on the injury report with a back injury. With his trade request still on the table, many have questioned the timing of his availability and questioned his status for Week 4’s game.

If Ramsey is unavailable, second-year corner Tre Herndon will likely start in Ramsey’s place. He already accumulated a start to his name Week 2, as A.J. Bouye missed the game with a hip injury.
