The Jacksonville Jaguars inched closer to the end of their voluntary organized team activities Thursday for session No. 9, leaving just one more before mandatory practices begin. It was a day in which the team heavily focused on red-zone situations for the passing game, and as they have all throughout OTAs, the receivers made the most of it.
Newly signed receiver Terrelle Pryor especially flourished in the situational drill bringing in two touchdowns on the day. Per Philip Heilman of the Florida Times-Union, the veteran receiver who is listed at 6-feet-4, 227-pounds, used his frame well in Thursday’s session which likely put him on the staff’s radar in the early stages of his tenure in Jacksonville.
Pryor signed officially with the Jags Monday with the team looking for proven depth at the receiver position. After bouncing around to several spots in the league, Pryor told the media that he’s fully recovered from the ankle injury he sustained in 2017 which required surgery and believes Jacksonville is the “right spot” for him. That said, if he continues to perform as he has heading forward, he could find himself pushing for a spot on the final roster as a No. 5 or No. 6 receiver.
Other Day 9 tidbits and absences
- Doug Marrone met with the media prior to Day 9’s session and told the media that his current group has been the best in terms of their practice habits for Phase 3.
- Marrone gave an update on tailback Ryquell Armstead who sustained a leg injury this week. According to him, the injury was a “slight hamstring” injury which will likely result in the rookie missing mini-camp. Marrone also said the team will likely play it safe with first-round rookie Josh Allen by holding him out of mini-camp, too.
- Action News Jax’s Brent Martineau spoke with safety Ronnie Harrison after practice, who said he’s ready for the team to rebound from 2018. The full interview was later played on Action Sports Jax and can be heard here.
- Tailback Leonard Fournette, receiver Dede Westbrook and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue weren’t in attendance Thursday. However, Marrone said he’s been in contact with every player who missed Thursday’s session and said they all will be in attendance for mandatory practices.
- Cornerback Jalen Ramsey also missed Thursday’s voluntary practice as he continues to train in Tennessee.
- Left tackle Cam Robinson worked on the side Thursday alongside tailback Benny Cunningham, receiver Marqise Lee, cornerback A.J. Bouye and defensive end Josh Allen.
- Quarterback Nick Foles, who has been spectacular during OTAs, thew a rare pick to nickelback D.J. Hayden after overthrowing tight end James O’Shaugnessy. He also hit one of his favorite targets, Keelan Cole, for a red-zone touchdown Thursday.
- Quarterback Garner Minshew continue to shine in the red-zone as he has occasionally in OTAs and hit Pryor for one of his two red-zone touchdowns of the day.
- Jags owner Shad Khan was in attendance at the Jags’ practice Thursday.
