Jags become second team eliminated from playoff contention after loss to Browns

While the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-10) fought hard against the Cleveland Browns (8-3) despite the circumstances before them, there still isn’t a lot to smile about in Duval. Their loss Sunday, which marked their tenth consecutive one, also eliminated them from playoff contention. As a result, they are now set to miss their eighth postseason under Shad Khan, who has owned the team nine full seasons.

The loss, which is No. 101 for Khan, not only comes at the expense of the postseason but makes the Jags the second team to be eliminated from postseason contention in 2020. The other team to be eliminated, of course, were the winless New York Jets.

The Jags’ 27-25 loss also resulted in the Jags firing general manager Dave Caldwell, who had been under Khan dating back to his first full season as owner in 2012. As a result of the firing, Director of Player Personnel, Trent Baalke, was named interim general manager for the remainder of the season.

The Jags’ loss Sunday also guarantees that the Jags won’t have a better record than last season (6-10) as five games remain. However, when looking a the tough teams ahead, it looks like remaining a one-win team is a strong possibility for coach Doug Marrone and company whose fate should be sealed regardless of what happens with the Jags’ remaining schedule.
