Jags activate Sidney Jones from practice squad, place Jarrod Wilson on IR

After a Week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts, the Jacksonville Jaguars entered this week making transactions and upgraded cornerback Sidney Jones IV from their practice squad to their active roster.

To make room on the roster, they also placed starting safety Jarrod Wilson on injure reserve with a hamstring injury.

Jones, who previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles, was one of the more notable players to get released during final cuts earlier this month. He was selected in the second-round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Washington, but things didn’t quite work out due to injuries. Throughout his three regular seasons with the team, he only played in 22 regular season games out of 48, though some were games where he was simply inactive.

With the Jags entering Week 1 with four rookie corners, most figured Jones wouldn’t be on practice squad long and it appears he’ll have a good chance to take the field Week 2 as the Jags travel to the Tennessee Titans. Jones will enter his Jags tenure with 50 career tackles, two picks, and 10 pass breakups.

As for Wilson, he sustained his injury late in Sunday game and never returned after being ruled doubtful. As a result of going on IR, he’ll now have to miss three games before he’s able to return to practice. Afterward, the Jags will have a three week window to activate him.
