Jaedon LeDee transferring from the Ohio State basketball program

What looks to be a very deep roster for Ohio State basketball in the 2019-20 season just got a little thinner.

That’s because Jaedon LeDee is transferring after just one season. Bill Landis of The Athletic was the first to report the news of his name appearing in the transfer portal. An Ohio State spokesman has since confirmed the news via Twitter.

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann released a brief statement confirming the news.

“Jaedon is a terrific young man,” said Holtmann. We appreciate the contribution he made to our team and wish him the best going forward.”

LeDee was recruited at Ohio State as a forward, but with the lack of depth behind Kaleb Wesson, he was asked to learn the game with his back to the basket. Now, it appears — he will be looking for an opportunity elsewhere.

His departure now leaves the Buckeyes with a serious need at the low-post position. They are still awaiting word on the decision of seven-footer Ibrahima Diallo that could come any day now, but as it stands right now, Ohio State now has two open scholarships to use.

We’ll have more on this story as it’s made available.
