Jadwiga Szczygielska: Man appears in court accused of murdering Edinburgh pensioner

A MAN has appeared in court on petition accused of murdering an Edinburgh pensioner.

Roman Frackiewicz, 44, appeared in the dock during a private hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Frackiewicz, of no fixed abode, is alleged to have murdered 77-year-old pensioner Jadwiga Szczygielska.

Frackiewicz made no plea and he was remanded in custody.

The case was continued for further examination and he is due to appear back in the dock within eight days.

The pensioner’s body was discovered within her home at Pirniefield Bank in the Seafield area of the capital at around 7.50am on Saturday.

Police Scotland enquiries indicate the death was an isolated incident but officers are keen to speak to any members of the public who could help their investigation.

Police are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the early morning of Saturday 18 April.

Detective Inspector Bob Williamson, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our enquiries indicate that this was an isolated incident but we are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help with our investigation.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious in the early morning of Saturday, 18 April, or who may have information that would help us then please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0756 of 18/04/2020 or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
