Jadon Sancho to Manchester United transfer 'another layer of cake' for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, says Wes Brown

Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund would be like adding "another layer of cake" to their attack, according to Wes Brown.

The 20-year-old is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's top target and Standard Sport understands talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with Borussia Dortmund holding firm on their £108 million asking price.

Man United's current front three - comprising of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood - have scored 62 goals between them in all competitions this season, leading many to question why Solskjaer would want to bring in another forward.

But former United defender Brown believes the England international would add more quality to their frontline, describing the youngster as an "absolutely perfect" signing.

"If we can get Sancho I think it would be excellent," Brown told Sky Sports via video link.

"We've got some brilliant young attacking players at the moment but Sancho would be another layer of the cake really.

"He's exciting, he's young, he can score goals and he's good with assists. If we can get that done it would be absolutely perfect."

The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League and also reached the semi-finals in the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup - an encouraging finish to the Norwegian's first full season in charge.

But Brown believes if they want to challenge for the title, they must ensure there are no slip-ups at the start of the new season.

"We've got to be pushing for the title and it's going to be difficult," he added. "If you can improve the squad and get the rotation going... you have to start well we know that.

"But we proved the last half of last season that once we get going, we're very difficult to beat. If we can get the start right, we can be challenging [for the title]."
