This transfer window could be one of the most uncertain in recent history.
Various financial constraints for different clubs makes predicting the market a very difficult task. We have seen already how sides aim to operate differently in the market with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, for example, showing no signs of letting up in their spending.
For Manchester United, the continued pursuit of Jadon Sancho looks like it could rumble on for some time with the two clubs currently far apart in their valuations of the 20-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund boast a relatively strong position as they maintain that the winger will be playing for them next season. United, meanwhile, could be forced to either spend big on their number one transfer target or look elsewhere as they eye attacking reinforcements this summer.
Given that the transfer window runs until October 5, Ed Woodward and co still have plenty of time to do their business in the transfer market.
Here is the latest news on Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
Scholes explains how Sancho would have improved United versus Sevilla
Club legend Paul Scholes believes that Sancho would have been a major help against Sevilla on Sunday night.
The Reds eventually lost 2-1 in the semi-final of the Europa League against Sevilla despite going 1-0 up, but missed several chances to put the game to bed.
Scholes believes that Sancho would have increased United’s chances of reaching the final.
He told BT Sport: “I don’t think they played badly tonight, I think they played well against a really good Sevilla team.
"But that 15-20 minutes after half-time with all those chances, you’ve got to score them. We’re talking about quality, about spending money on centre-forwards and wide players, you’re talking hundred of millions these days to get these players, but these are the players that win you trophies, win you medals.
"I know all of this Sancho thing is going on, but they need to start spending money. If they want to win trophies, you’ve got to start spending the money.
"Okay, they created the chances tonight, but if Sancho is in that team tonight, I think United are scoring.”
Dortmund chief makes Sancho statement after club losses of £45m
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has reiterated that the club do not need to sell Sancho this summer despite club record losses of £45million from last season.
The loss of matchday income from last season partly explains why the Bundesliga side recorded such losses.
However, Watzke was quick to outline that it won’t force the club into selling Sancho amid continued links with a move to Old Trafford.
He said: “We weren’t in a situation where we had to sell at any cost.
"We have had ten very, very good years at Borussia Dortmund… we made three-digit million profits and wrote deep black numbers. Then corona came and everything changed a little.
"We have succeeded in generating such a high level of liquidity that we can withstand this pandemic for a very long time."
Sancho could be ready to force United transfer 'on one condition'
United will be boosted in their pursuit of Sancho if they meet one demand that could force the 20-year-old to push for a move, one report says.
Dortmund have so far remained firm in their stance surrounding a £108million valuation but Sky Sports report that Sancho would hand in a transfer request if that transfer fee was met.
While the Dortmund winger has shown no signs of trying to force a move out of the Westfalenstadion, United’s next move could be crucial.
The United hierarchy has been quiet so far in terms of pursuing a move for the England international but any sign of meeting that £108miliion valuation could set the wheels in motion for a huge summer transfer.
