Jadon Sancho to Manchester United: Dortmund's position and Man Utd's financial advantage

Jadon Sancho is Manchester United’s number one transfer target this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to add the England international to his squad before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

United confirmed their qualification for next season’s Champions League with a final-day victory at Leicester City, and are now making moves to strengthen their squad in preparation for their return to European club football’s elite competition.

The Borussia Dortmund winger is one of the brightest young players in Europe after scoring 16 goals and assisting a further 17 in 32 Bundesliga games in 2019/20.

United see the addition of the 20-year-old, who left Manchester City for the Bundesliga three years ago, as a priority this summer, following on from the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January.

And the Watford academy product would be another quality addition if United can get a deal over the line this summer.

So here is the very latest on Sancho to Manchester United, from the MEN...

United relaxed over Sancho pursuit amid Dortmund transfer tactics

United remain relaxed over their pursuit of Sancho despite Dortmund’s tactics to try to force them into an early bid.

MEN Sport understands Dortmund are eager to raise interest from other potential suitors in order to accelerate a deal and push up the price of the player before their pre-season fixtures start in just a few weeks.

Sources in Germany claim Dortmund want to sell Sancho, valued in excess of €100m, before August 10, two days before the Black and Yellows start their pre-season programme with a game against Altach in Austria.

United are confident that these are merely transfer tactics from Dortmund and that they remain in a good position to sign Sancho.

Financial advantage could benefit United in Sancho negotiations

United could have an edge when it comes to negotiations for the signing of Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, according to a newly released report.

The latest edition of the Brand Finance Football Annual confirmed United as the third most valuable football club brand in the world, even accounting for an 11 per cent drop following the coronavirus pandemic.

This could benefit the Old Trafford club as they attempt to push down the price for Sancho, just as they did with Sporting for the signing of Fernandes in January.

Tahith Chong could also give United an advantage in any negotiations. The young winger only signed a new contract at Old Trafford earlier this year, but could feasibly be loaned out to the Bundesliga club as part of a deal.
