Jadon Sancho sends message to Manchester United's fans after scoring first goal

Jadon Sancho has delivered a passionate message to Manchester United fans after finally scoring his first goal for the club.

A switch four years in the making, the England forward touched down in the Premier League during the summer transfer window after Borussia Dortmund agreed to sanction his £72.9million return to the UK.

Having opted to sign for the Bundesliga club when he left Manchester City in 2017, the 21-year-old scored 50 goals and laid on 64 assists during four seasons with Dortmund.

However, it has taken him 15 appearances to register a maiden goal contribution for United.

That came against Villarreal this evening as the Old Trafford giants sealed Champions League progression thanks to a 2-0 victory in Spain. Of course, it was an occasion that also marked the start of Michael Carrick's reign - after he replaced sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a caretaker basis.

Cristiano Ronaldo set the ball rolling for United before fellow summer signing Sancho took centre stage.

As the game approached full-time, the England international picked up possession inside the Villarreal penalty box and proceeded to fire a thunderous, right-footed shot into the roof of the net.

Pundits and supporters have lauded Sancho for his all-around performance during that win.

And now, the former Dortmund favourite - who missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 final prior to his big move - has reached out to the United fan base.

Addressing his 1.3million followers on Twitter, Sancho said: "Proud to score my first goal for Man United in the best competition in world football [the Champions League].

"Great team effort from the boys, we build from this."

United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm) when they take on table-topping Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
