Jadon Sancho says first hat-trick 'bittersweet' as 'George Floyd justice more important'

Jadon Sancho says he's "delighted" to get the first hat-trick of his career but has also taken the opportunity to call for justice for George Floyd.

The Borussia Dortmund star netted three times in a 6-1 win over Paderborn on a weekend where violent protests around the death of the unarmed black man in the US at the hands of white police officer are ongoing.

Mr Floyd died in police custody in Minnesota after a white police officer knelt on his neck.

The incident sparked protests in cities across the United States and Sancho has used his platform to encourage people to "speak out for what's right" on Instagram.

He posted: "Solid performance from the team!! Delighted to get my first career hat trick, a bittersweet moment personally as there are more important things going on in the world today that we must address and help make a change.

"We shouldn't fear speaking out for what's right, we have to come together as one & fight for justice. We are stronger together! #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd".

The win for Dortmund was the perfect response to their disappointing home reverse against Bayern Munich on Monday night.

The defeat gave them a mountain to climb in the Bundesliga title race with six games remaining.

Bayern's lead at the top remains seven points after their win over Dusseldorf this weekend.

Dortmund's next game is at home to Hertha Berlin where Sancho will hope to build on his outstanding performance.

The Englishman had only appeared as a sub in the last three games as he made his way back to full fitness.

Sancho continues to be linked with a move away from the German club with United especially keen, but Dortmund are unlikely to entertain any offer below £100m.
