Jadon Sancho misses Borussia Dortmund match amid Manchester United transfer interest

Jadon Sancho will miss Borussia Dortmund's next match amid continued transfer interest from Manchester United.

Sancho has not travelled with the squad for Dortmund's German Super Cup tie with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The club have said Sancho - along with team-mate Roman Burki - is suffering from "respiratory infections", though he has tested negative for COVID-19.

A post on Dortmund's official Twitter page read: "Jadon Sancho and Roman Bürki will not fly to Munich as a result of respiratory infections.

"Additionally, both players tested negatively for COVID-19 yesterday (Monday)."

Sancho has been United 's top transfer target in this summer transfer window, but they have so far failed to land the 20-year-old. They have until Monday (October 5) - when the window closes - to get a deal done.

There remains hope at United that a deal can be struck in the final few days of the window and Dortmund's resolve could be tested with a bid, although United won't pay their £108million asking price.

Dortmund appear unwilling to sell Sancho this summer - and captain Marco Reus expects the England international to stay for this season, at least.

"We all were happy that he will be with us for the season," said Reus.

"Also because he delivers scorer points for the team. Goals, assists - in the end that translates to a lot of points.

"He is an essential player for us. If he will be as great of a player as (Cristiano) Ronaldo, time will tell.

"He needs a little bit of time, many experiences.

"There will surely be phases in his career where things will not go as smoothly as now, and we will see how he is going to deal with something like that.

"But I believe that he has the confidence and of course the quality to do that."
