Jadon Sancho Manchester United shirts go on sale but prompt confusion over his squad number

Manchester United are yet to officially unveil Jadon Sancho as their second summer signing, but one sports retailer is already selling shirts with his name on the back.

An official announcement is believed to be imminent from United after they agreed a £72.9million deal to sign the England international.

Sancho has agreed a five-year deal at Old Trafford and has already shot promotional material for his unveiling, which will be made when all necessary paperwork is completed.

Though it looks like ProDirectSoccer.com are jumping the gun a little bit after published pictures of United’s new home kit for 2021/22 with Sancho No.7 on the back.

Interestingly enough the website allows supporters to buy shirts with pre-made Sancho No.7 or Edinson Cavani No.7 on the back, adding to the confusion regarding his potential squad number.

It seems like ProDirect are hedging their bets by assuming Sancho will inherit his favoured squad number as worn at Borussia Dortmund, though there is no indication Cavani will sacrifice the shirt he wore last season.

In regards to other transfers United are progressing with a deal to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, having already welcomed back academy goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier to his squad and the club is also open to recruiting a midfielder, as well as another centre-back.

United are confident of completing a deal for Varane following the Sancho announcement and the Real Madrid defender expects to join United this summer.
