Jadon Sancho injury update with Manchester United sweating on forward's fitness ahead of Newcastle

Manchester United could be left sweating on the fitness of summer signing Jadon Sancho ahead of the visit of Newcastle United.

The former Borussia Dortmund attacker was called up by England for the latest round of international fixtures, but it has now been confirmed the 21-year-old will not feature in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Poland.

Sancho was absent from the Three Lions' emphatic victory in Hungary on Thursday night, with manager Gareth Southgate confirming he had picked up a 'minor knock'.

An FA statement issued on Saturday revealed the forward has now returned to the Red Devils as a result, but is expected to return to fitness in time to face the Magpies on September 11.

The statement reads: "Following further assessment, the 21-year-old has returned to his club and is expected to recover in time for Manchester United's fixture with Newcastle United on Saturday September 11."

If Sancho returns to fitness in time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces an enviable selection headache in attack to face Newcastle.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in line to make his second debut, with Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial all vying for roles up front.
