Jadon Sancho has spoken about his relationship with other Manchester United players in the England squad, after he earned his first start at Euro 2020 in the 4-0 win over Ukraine.
Sancho had featured for just six minutes at Euro 2020 prior to the quarter-final clash in Rome, but he started and completed the 90 minutes for the Three Lions in an excellent team performance that saw them progress to the final four for the second successive international tournament.
The 21-year-old started on the right wing for Gareth Southgate's side alongside two soon-to-be United teammates in Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, while Marcus Rashford came off the bench too.
And Sancho spoke to talkSPORT after the game and revealed the extent of his relationship with fellow Reds.
He said: "Yeah, Luke [Shaw] is a great lad. I always have a good relationship with him, Marcus [Rashford] and Harry [Maguire] so it’s going to be fun [at United].”
Sancho started on the opposite wing to Manchester City star Raheem Sterling and commented on the fact they switched wings on occasion throughout the game, offering some insight into his potential future role at Old Trafford next season.
"We knew that me and Raheem, on the wings, had to go at them and create space for Harry Kane. I thought we did so and that’s how we got the goals tonight so I’m very happy for the team and especially for Harry Kane.
“Me and Raz [Sterling], we always switch. We can play right, left, or in the middle. It’s not a problem for both of us. We just keep switching. Let’s say if it’s a counter attack, I’m on the left, he’s on the right, we just stay in those positions and whenever we want to switch, we’ll switch.”
United defender Shaw managed to get two assists but found time to praise Sancho's performance during the game, saying that he took his chance.
Will Jadon Sancho be a success at United next season? Let us know in the comments below.
"Brilliant. I said to him after the game ‘that’s a big performance’," said Shaw.
"He hasn’t had too much game time, he’s obviously been, not disappointed but wanting to play like everyone else.
“He’s kept his head down, he’s kept working hard and I feel like tonight he took his chance.
“He showed people why we’re buying him and of course, even though I was on the pitch, I was really impressed with his performance.
“I’m obviously looking forward to him becoming a Manchester United player and I will keep getting on to him to keep those high standards up.
“Today I was really happy and proud of his performance.”
England will now face Denmark in the semi-finals at Wembley on Wednesday night with a place in their first major final since 1966 up for grabs.
