Jadon Sancho and Bundesliga gestures of support to be examined by German FA

The German Football Association is set to examine tributes to George Floyd and other political gestures made by a number of players during the weekend's Bundesliga action.

Among the players to be looked at is Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, who took off his shirt to display the message "Justice for George Floyd" after scoring against Paderborn.

Sancho was booked for taking his shirt off and went on to score two more goals in the 6-1 thrashing, while his teammate Achraf Hakimi also displayed a similar message.

Their tributes followed that of Borussia Monchengladbach's Marcus Thuram, who took a knee after scoring against Union Berlin.

Elsewhere, United States midfielder Weston McKennie wore a "Justice for George Floyd" armband during Schalke's defeat to Werder Bremen.

The statements of the individuals in question are prohibited by DFB regulations and control committee chairman Anton Nachreiner confirmed an investigation has been opened.

"The DFB control body will attend to this issue in the coming days and scrutinise the circumstances of the case," he said on Monday.

The death of black Minnesota resident Floyd in Minneapolis last week prompted protests and riots across America.

The 46-year-old had a knee pressed into his neck while he was arrested by a white policeman and he died some time after.

Sancho took to Twitter to voice his feelings after scoring a "bittersweet" first senior hat-trick.

"First professional hat trick. A bittersweet moment personally as there are more important things going on in the world today that we must address and help make a change.

"We have to come together as one & fight for justice. We are stronger together! #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd."

Meanwhile, Monchengladbach boss Marco Rose praised Thuram for his celebration after his side's 4-1 win.

"Marcus has made the point. He has set an example against racism that we all support," he said.
