Jadeveon Clowney still in communication with Texans teammates

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is not at Houston Texans training camp as he continues to avoid signing his franchise tag offer. However, the three-time Pro Bowler is not out of touch with his teammates.

According to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, the former 2014 No. 1 overall pick speaks with Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph on a regular basis.

While Clowney may be working out on his own while the Texans are in training camp, it does create an isolation from the team. However, it appears the former South Carolina Gamecock is staying in touch with fellow teammates so that there remains a bond with the team.

Clowney and the Texans were unable to work out a new contract prior to the July 15 deadline. As a result, the only option for Clowney to play for Houston in 2019 is to do so under a one-year franchise tag. Consequently, both Clowney and the Texans will not be able to negotiate a new contract until the end of the regular season. As Ian Rapoport explained to the “Texans Talk Podcast,” this is also why Clowney would not be as enticing of a trade target as he would have been before the July 15 deadline.
