Report: Jadeveon Clowney lists Seahawks among 2 preferred trade destinations

The Seattle Seahawks are in desperate need of a pass rush heading into the 2019 season. An obvious fit would be the Houston Texans’ Jadeveon Clowney, who is holding out and expected to be traded in the coming days.

More fuel was tossed onto that fire when Texans beat reporter Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported that Clowney prefers the Seahawks and the Eagles as trade destinations.

Clowney has a ton of leverage when it comes to a trade. He is unsigned, having refused to sign his franchise tag. For him to be traded, he will need to sign that tender, so he has the ability to refuse a trade anywhere.

The Seahawks are not known to have specific interest in Clowney, although a match does make sense on paper — and the team has shown a willingness to make impactful trades just before the start of the regular season in the John Schneider era.

However, Clowney would purely be a rental player; any team acquiring him would not be able to sign him to an extension until after this season.

While Seattle does appear to be a fit, they have yet to visit with him and seem rather confident in the pass rush that they have currently.

Still, after placing Kalan Reed and Nazair Jones on injured reserve and releasing Amara Darboh, the team does have an extra roster spot heading into the final preseason game of the year Thursday against the Oakland Raiders.
