Jadeveon Clowney improving each week for Seattle Seahawks

It was a big deal when the Seattle Seahawks traded with the Houston Texans for All-Pro pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, and while he’s been solid overall, his sack numbers aren’t where many expected them to be at the halfway point of the season.

However, just because Clowney isn’t knocking down the quarterback on every play, doesn’t mean he isn’t affecting the game.

“He’s been consistently active,” coach Pete Carroll said of Clowney’s performance. “I go back to his pressure numbers are 16, 17% or something like that. It’s a good number. We’ve just got to get him to come in a couple more times and knock the quarterback down just so we can all cheerlead and stop asking questions.”

Through the first eight games of the year Clowney has 10 tackles and two sacks. He’s also forced two fumbles and has an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

Clowney is a big part of the defense. Even if the gaudy numbers aren’t there yet, he hasn’t played poorly enough to lose the trust of his coaches. In fact, he hasn’t played poorly at all.

“I love the way he’s playing, run and pass,” Carroll continued. “He’s really active. He’s getting ahold of the system now and he’s taking advantage of it. I think we’re just going to continue to see a lot of productivity out of him.”

Week 9 will bring a home game against a dual receiving threat in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin for Buccaneers. Clowney and the rest of the Seahawks defense will need to slow them down.
