Jadeveon Clowney doesn’t show up for Texans’ organized team activities

Edge defender Jadeveon Clowney was not present for the Houston Texans’ Tuesday, according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.

For Clowney it’s not a big deal financially because the practices are voluntary. It is not until mandatory veteran minicamp on June 11 that he will start to get fined for missing practices.

Last season, Clowney missed OTAs as he was recovering from a late season knee injury. It led to a Pro Bowl season for the former 2014 No. 1 overall pick. The difference between last offseason and 2019 is Clowney was in all the meetings and part of the team’s off-field activities.

Clowney and the Texans have until July 15 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time to get a contract extension worked out. After that point, the franchise tag designation sticks and the two sides cannot work out a new deal until the conclusion of the 2019 season.

As long as the practices are voluntary, don’t expect the 26-year-old edge rusher to be a part of OTAs.
