Jadeveon Clowney confident in Seahawks pass rush despite lack of sacks

The Seattle Seahawks’ pass rush has been lackluster to start the season, only recording 10 sacks through five games. However, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is confident in the unit moving forward.

“We’re winning games and we’re not playing our best right now, which is always a good thing,” Clowney told reporters on Monday. “It’s a long, long season. We’ve just got to come to play each week and knock ’em off one at a time. Right now, don’t look down the road. Just get prepared for Cleveland.”

Clowney spent the first five seasons of his career with the Texans before he was traded to Seattle for Barkevious Mingo, Jacob Martin and a third-round draft pick in 2020. Following the Seahawks’ 30-29 victory over the Rams on Thursday, Clowney stated he is very happy to be in the Emerald City.

“It’s just something about this team,” he said. “They never hit the panic button. They come to work and prepare like pros ever since I’ve been here. They’ve taught me so much about this game in a short amount of time. This coaching staff that I haven’t had – I’m not saying that they were a bad coaching staff before – but there’s stuff that I hadn’t learned.”

The Seahawks did not record any sacks Thursday night, but they did produce five quarterback hits. Clowney is looking ahead to bringing the quarterback down at a consistent level.

“The next step is make sacks, not just get pressure,” Clowney said. “We’ve been getting pressures – a lot of pressures – but we’re not finishing and getting sacks.”

This Sunday, Clowney and the rest of the defensive line will have their chance to rack up numbers against the Browns, whose offensive line has given up 16 sacks in five contests.
