Jade Thirlwall has revealed she was asked to audition for reality TV show Geordie Shore before she was in Little Mix.
The 28-year-old singer, who is from South Shields, was put in the girl band after appearing on The X Factor as a solo artist.
She went on to win the ITV talent show with new bandmates Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock and the quartet quickly became one of the UK’s biggest selling girl bands of all time.
But things could have turned out very differently for Jade if she had taken the reality route alongside Geordie Shore stars Vicky Pattison and Charlotte Crosby when she was 18.
Appearing on Dutch make-up artist NikkieTutorials YouTube channel, she asked Jade: “Where are you from?”
Jade replied: “Do you know Newcastle? I’m from right next to there. Do you watch Geordie Shore?” to which Nikki replied: “I’ve seen it."
Jade continued: “That is hilarious. It’s not the full representation of Geordie land but it certainly is an insight.”
She then revealed: “I got asked to audition for Geordie Shore before I got put in Little Mix.”
Nikki gasped and asked: “Do you ever regret it?” Jade pulled a face and said: “No.”
She added: “I’m happy that I made it as a pop star. That was my calling.”
Newcastle-based reality TV show Geordie Shore made household names out of Northern lasses Charlotte Crosby and Vicky Pattison, among others.
The gang became known for their boozy antics and outrageous behaviour which included getting “mortal” drunk and having sex on TV, something Vicky says she now regrets.
Pal Charlotte also recently revealed she pooed herself while filming the show – but the scenes were never aired.
She wrote on social media: “Poo apparently isn't allowed to be shown on a TV show unless it's about something medical.
"Seeing as Geordie Shore wasn't Holby City, we weren't actually allowed to show the time I s**t my pants in Mexico.”
While the Geordie Shore girls were doing that, Little Mix became the first girl band to ever win The X Factor back in 2011.
Their hit singles like Wings, Black Magic and Shout Out to my Ex propelled them to mega stardom.
They have since sold over 60 million records worldwide making them the biggest UK girl band since the Spice Girls.
This year marks the band’s 10 year anniversary, but there have been rumours they are about to split.
Jesy Nelson left the band in December 2020 to embark on a solo career, saying being in the girl group had “taken a toll on my mental health”.
“I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard,” she added.
She has recently been caught up in a public feud with the rest of the Little Mix girls, particularly Leigh-Anne, who accused Jesy of using cultural appropriation in her new music video.
