Jacoby Brissett, Devin Funchess get in heated exchange at OTAs

It may only be the spring workouts, but don’t tell that to Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett and wide receiver Devin Funchess, who got into a heated exchange at Wednesday’s practice.

Returning to the field for the second week of OTAs, the Colts resumed the spring training program. As for Brissett and Funchess, there was some apparent miscommunication, and the duo got into a heated exchange to the point they had to be restrained by teammates and coaches.

It isn’t uncommon for tempers to flare for the spring. Everyone is fighting for a job on the depth chart, especially for Funchess and Brissett.

The latter is working with the first-team offense in the absence of starting quarterback Andrew Luck, who is currently dealing with a calf strain. Brissett has been the backup since Luck’s return, so he has plenty of fire when he’s on the field.

Funchess, who signed with the team in March, has a high ceiling in the Frank Reich offense, but he still must prove he’s worthy of a starting spot after failing to live up to his draft billing as a second-round pick with the Carolina Panthers.

It’s easy to see why tempers flare when there is miscommunication.

It doesn’t appear anything came of the heated exchange. Just some players looking to get the best out of each other whenever they can.
