Jacob Murphy deal talks continue but Newcastle aren't panicking about extension

Newcastle United are relaxed about Jacob Murphy's contract situation - despite fresh reports of interest from Watford and Rangers.

The winger has enjoyed a positive season on Tyneside after returning from two seasons on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion.

Steve Bruce was asked about Murphy's contract situation by BBC Newcastle on Friday and said: "I sincerely hope that we tie Jacob down.

"He's played a big part in the season... I've been very, very pleased with him."

But it has emerged that Murphy still has another season on his existing arrangement and won't be out of contract until 2022.

Murphy was one of the heroes at Burnley last weekend when he swept home an important equaliser before sprinting off to kiss the Newcastle crest on his shirt.

The boyhood Newcastle fan wants to stay at the club and his agent Jamie Moralee of New Era Global Sports is eager to get his client an extended deal.

As reported on Chronicle Live earlier this month, the next decision on the horizon for the Magpies is whether to extend Paul Dummett's deal.

The club have the option of a year's extension on the 29-year-old defender and have to let him know by the last weekend in May.

Another soon to be out of contract player will be Andy Carroll with the striker known to have a mid-May decision day regarding his contract.

Dwight Gayle is believed to have been offered a new deal but the club are yet to announce the extension for the ex-Crystal Palace striker.
