GWS gun midfielder Jacob Hopper has capped off a stand-out AFL season by signing a two-year contract extension with the Giants.

The former Giants academy product had delayed a call on his contract until after GWS' 2021 campaign was over but has now committed until the end of the 2023 season, when he will be eligible for free agency.

Hopper averaged 26.4 disposals, 6.3 clearances and 4.3 inside-50s per game to make the All-Australian extended squad of 40 and play a key role in GWS' run to the semi-final.

"The club's been great in allowing me to focus on my football across what was a really disrupted season for us," Hopper said.

"I'm really excited to officially re-sign and I think we've shown on-field this season that we're building something really special that I want to be a part of.

"I'm really looking forward to continuing to progress with this young group we have next season and into the future."

A Giants academy graduate, Hopper was drafted at Pick No.7 in the 2015 AFL draft and has played 107 games for the Giants since making his debut in 2016.

He joined the Giants' leadership group ahead of the 2021 season and football boss Jason McCartney lauded Hopper for taking "his game to another level" this year.

"We've said all year we were really confident Jacob would remain a Giant but it's great to officially confirm it," he said.
