Jacob Evans says people have counted him out after rookie season

The Golden State Warriors have recently been a deep and veteran team that’s hard for a rookie or unproven player to breakthrough for some consistent playing time.

That was the life for rookie Jacob Evans in 2018-19. The 28th overall pick in the 2018 draft averaged 1.3 points and 0.8 assists while playing in only 30 games. Numbers like that can earn you a “bust” label pretty quickly and Evans bristles whenever he hears that notion.

“A lot of people count you out, like the writers. Ya’ll are going to talk your stuff and get your stories, but I just stay with it,” Evans said. “I’m not an underdog. But a lot of people have doubts and questions about me. I just keep that in mind.”

Evans averaged 13 points in his final season in Cincinnati before being selected in the first round by Golden State so he clearly showed his worth on a big stage before.

With Kevin Durant off to Brooklyn and Klay Thompson out for the majority of the upcoming 2019-20 season, Evans will have his chance to prove his worth at the NBA level. There will ample opportunity for him to put his stamp on the Warriors.
