Jacob Brown stakes Scotland starting claim with Stoke City winner in front of watching Steve Clarke

Scotland new boy Jacob Brown has celebrated his first international call up by bagging his fifth goal of the season in front of Steve Clarke.

The striker was called up for the first time by Clarke on Tuesday for the World Cup qualifying double header against Moldova and Denmark.

And Brown showed his new boss what he has to offer with the winning goal for the Potters in their Championship clash at Luton Town.

Clarke was at Kenilworth Road for the match and must now be considering throwing him straight in for Scotland’s clash in Moldova for the penultimate Group F qualifier.

Lyndon Dykes is suspended for the match in Chisinau with a Hampden clash against Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark to finish the campaign.

A win over Moldova will secure a play off place for Qatar 2022 and Brown could become an instant hero if handed a start.

Brown showed great striker’s instinct to poke home inside the six-yard box after good work from Romaine Sawyers late in the first half for the only goal of the game.

Former Scotland man Steven Fletcher was also in action for Stoke City and played a key role in Brown’s call up after recommending him.
